Painting #20 - Finished (30/05/20)

Lucy

I woke up with a terrible headache today. It didn't feel like a migraine thankfully, more like blocked sinuses. So I had a very slow start to the day until the painkillers kicked in and I then did Adriene's 'Yoga for Headaches'. That was helpful, quite soothing and particularly the advice to put some drops of essential oil on a tissue and placing that on the yoga mat, and also the special breathing technique where you breathe in and out through alternate nostrils. I shall be trying this whenever I develop a headache in future. I usually suffer so badly that I will try anything!

Once I'd done the yoga and had something to eat I felt well enough to start my art again. I experimented with quite a few different pieces of paper for the collage in the centre of the canvas but couldn't really settle on anything. I took photos and kept referring back to those, to try to work out which things looked best. Eventually I decided to do a pale watercolour wash over the unpainted parts of the canvas, just so that I wasn't staring at blank canvas. I think this helped a bit because I suddenly switched from thinking that I needed to use newspaper text as the collage material to something without text, and with just a simple, coloured design...old gift wrap tissue paper! It was just some used paper from last Father's Day (or the one before!) I am so glad I kept it though because it works really well. It fits brilliantly with the painted colours. It took hours to complete though! It was the latest I had worked for quite some time! I did decide to include some text on top of the tissue layer but I carefully selected just a few bits and they are very subtle for the most part.

We didn't walk today. I didn't do any evening yoga either because I finished the art so late. I will make up for it tomorrow with extra activity!
